BAC and LEA Recognizes Excelling Student Consultants

Date:
05 May 2015

Following the memorandum of understanding that was signed between Botswana Accountancy College(BAC) and Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) which capitalizes on synergies of the two organizations, on Tuesday 5th 2015, the two institutions held a ceremony to recognise 17 student consultants. The students were recognised and awarded certificates for outstanding individual contributions in providing and implementing practical business solutions for SMMEs incubated by LEA.

Said BAC Executive Director Mr. Michael Lesolle, “Part of BAC’s success in graduating readily employable students relies on the partnerships we have built with key industry players such as LEA. Through LEA we are able to enhance the learning cycle of students with real world experience. Students gained experience while helping to improve business skills and competencies of SMME entrepreneurs currently incubated by LEA.”

The innovative partnership allowed BAC students to gather hands on experience working with the dynamic demands of Botswana’s SMME sector. Additionally the two organizations achieve LEA’s mandate and by extension, contribute towards the country’s vision 2016 goal of creating a prosperous, productive and innovation nation.

“LEA has found the Business Hive Student Consultancy Programme partnership with BAC very valuable and rewarding on many fronts. We have been able to borrow a different kind of energy, fresh thinking from young people, and have also been able to impart marketable skills and experience at the same time. Furthermore we can be sure that if any of these students were to seek LEA’s services in future it would be an easier process facilitating their business needs,” said LEA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tebogo Matome.

Botswana Accountancy College and the Local Enterprise Authority entered into an industry engagement partnership in 2014. The partnership falls within BAC’s wider community engagement strategy, and signifies the institution’s recognition to forge progressive relations with the industry in order to expose students to industry experience and enhance their employability. The two parties agreed to cooperate on capacity building for entrepreneurial development at a national level, resource sharing, training, internships, consultancy and mentorship initiatives.

The Business Hive Student Consultancy Programme was open to students from a broad range of BAC programmes in line with the needs of LEA clients. Students are able to learn from and support LEA in providing assistance to SMME’s in the preparation of business plans and feasibility studies.
